Climbing in the Mälaren Valley

 37

The book covers roped climbing around lake Mälaren in mid-east Sweden. From Stockholm it takes 1-2 hours to drive to all destinations. There are hundreds of bolted and traditional routes of all grades. The book covers around 40 crags, from Uppsala in the north to the well known Tunaberg region in the south.

The crags are described with maps, driving directions, pictures, topos and routes. A large part of the book also tells the history of climbing in the different areas including many old pictures.

On this page you will be able to download a supplement to the book in the future.

The project “Climbing in the Mälaren Valley”

The book is partially funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. The purpose of the project has been to produce a guidebook for climbing in the Mälaren Valley in Sweden and to create a website for marketing the book.

General goals are to contribute to an active outdoor life, inform about access restrictions such as nature reserves and bird protection, contribute to the Swedish national outdoor policy goals, to promote visits to cultural-historical valuable places and promote local entrepreneurship and rural areas.

Specific goals are to provide climbers with detailed information about climbing crags, routes, grades and other information related to the sites, which could increase the interest for and accessibility of climbing, especially in the Södermanland County.
